Dogecoin launched in December of 2013, the brain child of Billy Markus and Jackson Palmer, software engineers from IBM and Adobe, respectively. It’s a peer-to-peer, open source coin based on Litecoin.
Dogecoin differs from some other cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin and Litecoin in that there is no cap on how many may be mined. While Bitcoin’s limit is 21 million, Dogecoin already has 114 billion in circulation. This means the price of Dogecoin won’t inflate like some other cryptocurrencies making it optimal for smaller transactions.
The Dogecoin community is large and growing rapidly. It’s also known as the friendly coin.
